Why hello!

If, 15 years ago, I sat little Lauren down and said to her “Listen up kid, you’re going to live a full-fledged German life…and you’re going to love it”, I would have laughed in my own face and slowly backed away. And yet, here I am. A Berliner with 7 years under my belt, married to a German, mom to a half-German kid. Even my two dogs were German. (My sweet Frida passed away several months ago, so we only have one living dog).

But now, I don’t see any other way my life could have possibly played out. That’s the magic of finding gratitude in the present, isn’t it? In the throes of motherhood, I’ve had to grant myself permission to take a pause and reflect on how different my life would be if I hadn’t relocated many years ago. My career would look differently, my child may not exist and my hobbies would likely also have another face. 

My journey to where, who, I am today wasn’t linear and with this space, I hope to give life to the many versions of myself, both from yesteryear and to come. Navigating through the world of wine, coming up for air as a mom, rediscovering hobbies that they’ve labeled as #tradwife but I consider useful life skills, and juggling all of the facets of life as an immigrant in Germany are what I’ll focus on, but my website, my rules.
